Newton Stewart Initiative Community Shop is based in Dashwood Square, Newton Stewart. Relying purely on volunteers and generous donations from residents, the Community Shop Awards has become an annual event. The shop gives away 20% of it’s profits to other local groups and organisations in and around the town. If you shop in there thank you! Your money goes to good causes within and around the town.
2024 saw the highest number of applicants for funding since NSI began to do the awards with £6100 given to successful applicants. Applications are read by the shop volunteers and an independent judge makes the final decision on where the money goes.
At the Community Shop Awards in May over 50 people attended, combining it with our annual AGM followed by a cheese and wine evening. It was a great turn out and a chance to hear about the numerous volunteer groups and organisations that work in the town for the people of the town and how they were planning on spending the money
