NSI are extremely grateful for the funding from the Communities Health and Wellbeing Fund for Happy Daze. Happy Daze was set up in May 2023 by Ken Barlow, a trustee of NSI and local author. A reminiscence group that brought together people of a certain generation to remember how Newton Stewart used to be through photographs, slide shows and talks. Naomi Dunbar and Ken have done outreach work, visiting local care homes and the local day centre, doing quizzes and taking photographs to share. Once a month Happy Daze is held at Vibe 75 from 12-2pm and we work with the Future Builders from the local high school. A group of 16-18 year olds come along, provide refreshments and intergenerational relationships are formed. The funding will support our group in sharing our memories to a larger audience in the form of presentations and photos on the high street as well as continuing to nurture the relationships we are building with the younger ones.
