Become a Member of the Newton Stewart Initiative

NSI is a community organisation with charitable status. We were established to regenerate our town,
involving as many people and groups as possible. NSI aims to develop community facilities; support
community-led initiatives, businesses and regeneration projects; youth, arts and sports projects, and any
other activities to benefit our community. It is our vision that NSI will bring together the aspirations,
enthusiasm, skills, and experience of the people of the Newton Stewart area to create the vehicle of change
that will see our town revitalised and turned into a town that is growing in prosperity and is an even better
place in which to live and work.

Becoming a member means you will help to shape the future of NSI, with the opportunity to attend meetings,
share ideas and participate in decisions that affect how NSI operates and develops. Members can attend
regular meetings and vote at AGMs and EGMs. This will provide you with an oversight of our operations and
offers opportunities to elect Trustees, scrutinise accounts and vote on particular matters. Associate
Members and Junior Members have no power to vote at members’ meetings.

I apply to become a member of NSI, a Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation (SCIO). I understand
that the Trustees of NSI have the discretion to accept or refuse any application. Return your form to: NSI,
Church Street, Newton Stewart, DG8 6ER. Tel: 01671 401449. Email: info@newtonstewartinitiative.net

Terms and Conditions

What Does Membership Mean

Members are subject to some of the general duties of Charity Trustees. Specifically, members must

Act in the interests of Newton Stewart Initiative

Seek, in good faith, to ensure NSI acts in a manner which is consistent with our charitable purposes.

Failure to comply with these duties may be treated as misconduct in the administration of NSI

The Office of the Scottish Charity Regulator (OSCR) recognises that members may not be involved in the day-
to-day management of NSI. Therefore, when exercising powers such as considering changes to the
constitution or taking part in elections of charity trustees, members must always act in the interests of NSI
and seek to ensure that NSI continues to operate in line with our charitable purposes.

Membership Does Not Mean That

You are required to make a financial commitment

You have any financial liability for NSI
