The Dumfries and Galloway Council’s Economy and Infrastructure Committee met on Tuesday the 2nd of September and approved the stage two Community Asset Transfer request from Newton Stewart Initiative for the Old Town Hall, Victoria Street Newton Stewart. (The Clock Tower)
Immediate access was requested and the legal process to draw up the 25-year lease has begun. This will need to be checked by the Initiatives legal advisers before the transfer can be completed.
As we have shared previously, our plan is to turn the ground floor offices into a Community Information Hub, including the development of a Jobs Board, promotion of volunteering roles within the Cree Valley area, events promotion and a Visitor Information Point.
The building will also house the Initiatives administration offices and booking centre for Vibe 75 and the Newton Stewart Centre (The Hut).
We hope to have the lease finalised and take occupation of the building between now and Christmas.
Please bear with us during this initial phase as it does take time.
